[Perhaps it's of no surprise the bird guy would prefer high places, and right now there's one new tall place in the entirety of this game: the lighthouse. It's not hard to notice Revali spends a lot of time in this place, making him quite easy to find.
Another perk is that it allows him to notice anyone coming and going. He sees Rochalizo as soon as he enters the beach.
Given who he is, perhaps it was to be expected he wouldn't eagerly go meet anyone who comes in the vicinity of the lighthouse, but it wouldn't take long to notice Revali up there, staring straight at Rochalizo]
[he's going to stare straight back at revali! and then point at the ground—with his free hand, since he appears to be holding something else with his other arm.]
[No...reason not to, he supposes. Besides hey, this is his chance. Like the drama queen he is, Revali doesn't hesitate to jump from the lighthouse, spiralling around the building with impressive speed, landing in front of Rochalizo with a flap of wings. Not as much wind is whipped around as Revali would have liked, but hey! He tried to give this his usual flair! Because, no matter the situation, he won't waste a chance to show off!]
I know, I know, my descent was eyecatching. But I suppose seeing me glide at high speeds, out of the reach to anyone shackled to the ground, wasn't the only reason to call me down here, no?
[When being offered that, Revali actually seems surprised!]
You actually got this for me. I'm... [Befuddled. While it's true he had said he'd need this, he hadn't seriously expected Rochalizo to take the time to find it. Revali is pretty allergic to saying thank you, though. Instead he says while he takes it all:] I'll give it good use.
[That's as good as a 'thank you', really. He has to ask, though:]
What do you expect to get in exchange?
[Favors like this one don't come for free, really, he's certain of that. If it was someone from Rito Village he'd take it for granted, but here? A bunch of strangers and what not? Nah, this definitely has strings attached]
If that's all then there was no need to ask in the first place. [He says, turning some of the wood in his wings, evaluating how useful it'd be] I do intend to face any threats that may arise.
[It'd be right to do so, really. While Revali doesn't exactly shine for his altruism, he's not the sort to sit aside without doing anything about whatever danger that may befall this bunch]
I did notice a lot of us seem to have enough combat ability to have it listed in those profiles that got unveiled. Truthfully I don't expect all that much, but there's no reason to believe it's inaccurate. There's enough brute force, as long as we don't turn it against each other!
[Although Revali is pretty certain nobody here comes even close to what he can do, but he doesn't outright say so because, well, he lacks flight. That's a huge handicap, huge enough it keeps him from bragging as much as he'd otherwise. Something inside him is itching to just say it but he can't, accursed lack of proper flight!]
...although some of them's personalities leave a lot to be desired. Surely you have met the horned one, right? Power, is her name. Unfortunately for anyone else with fighting abilities, she claims to be just as skillful. Working alongside her is going to be...
[Annoying? Exhausting? Gross, if she wasn't exaggerating in the slightest about how those she fights end like?]
Not content with trying to steal my bag of supplies, she grabbed onto my back when I tried to take it, claiming it was hers. I'm sure annoying others to get what she wants is her tactic, that's all it is.
[Or maybe she's just Power and that includes doing things like that. Personally I think that's likelier, hah]
How can there be so many frustrating people in one single place?
[IT's amazing and wonderful, and Revali hates it -- which is how you know it's amazing and wonderful. Power, and Sholmes, and Spike, and so many others!]
[Those shoes made a valiant sacrifice. Revali never saw the amount of blood, but from the way it sounded? And...also the way everyone was shouting and yelling like ten meters away from everyone else? Yeah that can't have been a pretty picture, he gets the gist.
Revali seems to be in a bit of a hurry]
There you are. I was meaning to talk to you for a while already.
[But Revali kept leaving it for later. Now, though? Now that someone died and there's this trial thing and all? Yeah, he supposes it's time to do it already]
[He checked the profile some time ago. No word of archery in Rochalizo's profile! But it's not like those scrolls contain everything one is decent at. He sees no harm in asking]
[Revali nods. From behind his back he takes a bow -- not the rather large one on his profile, a smaller, far less detailed and ornate bow. Definitely made to be functional, not to be pretty. The color makes it pretty dang obvious it was made with the wood Rochalizo had given him days ago]
Since I got back the Great Eagle Bow that rightfully belongs to me, I have no more use for this one.
[He extends the bow towards Rochalizo]
You may not be able to use it, but you probably will find someone who does.
[Apparently Revali has no concerns with giving a weapon to someone despite what happened that day. Perhaps the reason why he decided to give it to Rochalizo was simply because Rochalizo was already aware Revali had it]
At this point diversifying your skills is a good idea.
[Which is why Revali has started to take seriously the sort of fighting that doesn't involve using a bow. This bird has gotten punched more than he cares to admit!
He looks out to the sea]
After what happened it's obvious we're all in trouble. While of course I'm doing all I can-- [Which, unfortunately, won't be all that effective because the murdergame must go on. Sucks for Revali, hah] --providing someone else a way to defend themselves should help. Do whatever you want with that bow.
[He'd rather take his chances giving a weapon than not doing a thing and seeing someone else die, whether it's because a Spectre attacked or because someone else also turns out to have a craving for jerky of dubious procedence! Still, he must ask:]
Inform me if you give it to someone else. It is a weapon, after all.
[Because really, there's always the chance it's used to attack someone]
I will. [he pauses.] ... Would you be able to give me some pointers? Of course, I'm sure I'll pick it up quickly enough! But I suppose it wouldn't hurt to hear from an expert...
You cannot hope to ever achieve my level of mastery.
[Revali lets that hang for a couple seconds before he sighs. With practiced fluidity, he gets his own bow off his back. When did he place an arrow onto it? He even extends an arrow towards Rochalizo -- clearly a homemade arrow, with a tip made from a stone he probably picked around here on the beach]
I should give you the basics. First of all place the arrow onto the bowstring, exactly as you see it here. Placing it incorrectly will only lead to your doom.
[Revali is so relieved Rochalizo is doing better than expected. He almost expected Rochalizo to fumble and drop the arrow like five times trying to get it right, but instead he followed the steps properly. Alright! Maybe this really will work, he thinks]
During battle you won't get to aim for more than a fleeting moment. You must not waste time!
[Revali turns around and points his bow at the city walls behind them]
Let me see how's your aim.
[Without any hesitation he lets go of the arrow in his bow, it flying through the air until it embeds itself into a crack on one of the many rock bricks forming the wall. It's a pretty snug fit! That's the only reason why the arrow stays on the wall.
[rochalizo aims—albeit not for very long, given revali's whole spiel about not wasting time—and then releases the arrow.
i presume marksmanship skills with a gun doesn't perfectly translate to a bow, so it doesn't exactly hit close to revali's arrow, though it's at least not wildly off either.]
[Hmph hmph hmph indeed. If Revali had eyebrows -- well, technically he has, but still -- he'd raise them. That was...far better than expected. Certainly isn't going to hit a moving target, but he was able to hit the general vicinity. Honestly anything that isn't 'wildly off' is excellent for a first attempt]
I'll ask you once again: have you ever practiced archery?
[As if Rochalizo had lied earlier just so he would have the chance to show off right now]
I have seen many beginners try for the first time. Of course, they're all told to master archery on the ground before beginning aerial archery training. I know how most people do when they're still handling the basics.
[He sighs]
You're doing remarkably well, for someone who doesn't have much experience with bows. There's a lot of improvement ahead of you, yet you already have a decent enough base to learn from.
[Like the next day or so Revali would be so glad Rochalizo said that. There aren't that many materials for arrows down at the bottom of the sea!]
That is a decent suggestion. If you're confident enough in your craftmanship I can show you how to make one. I should warn you the process will take a while -- but any self-respecting archer must know how to make them.
[He speaks as if Rochalizo had pledged to spend the rest of his life walking the path of the archer]
