WEEK 0; THURSDAY AFTERNOON

[ Being spirited away to a strange land is no reason to slack on your fitness routine, so this "morning" (teenage boys will be teenage boys and sleep in) Akira can be found on the beach going for a nice jog. Thank god he got his clothes back too, cause the sand is great for calorie burning but not really sustainable for long distance runs barefoot.

At some point he reaches the lighthouse and stops to splash some water on his face to cool off before he begins his next split. ]

[Revali should get started making arrows, that's what he had thought. Since he took over the lighthouse as the place he spent most of his time at, it was natural he'd bring all the wood all the way there. There he is, carrying a sizable bunch of wood from the forest over one shoulder.

Oh, great. One of his least favorite people around. There he is. Revali probably wouldn't be able to pass by unnoticed, he realized -- and backing down was not how he did things. He was going to go all the way to the lighthouse because he wanted to!

Passing by, Revali glances at Akira. Has he gotten over the whole 'you're a spirit' thing? Has he gone telling more people that? Revali managed to convince Van Zieks that wasn't true, but still...with some luck that tidbit wouldn't make the rounds around]

[ Nagako notices Revali first, turning to give him a level stare in wolf form, her paws in the surf. It doesn't take Akira too long to realize something's gotten her attention so he turns and looks... ah. Fun. ]

I didn't know Big Bird was a seagull.

[Oh, no, he noticed. Revali stands his ground, although he slows down a bit for conversation's sake]

Will being a seagull make you more or less likely to start another fight?

[You can punch seagulls, Akira! At least with them you'll have a chance, he thinks! As if Revali was the indisputable winner in that fight. He very much wasn't, but he sure won't admit that aloud, ever]

You seriously think I'm that stupid? [ Not that he's smart but c'mon now Revali. Nagako bristles, shaking off some ocean spray in the process. ]

[The answer, most certainly, is yes. Thankfully Revali refrained from saying so, this once, hah]

Regardless, at this point perhaps there are more important matters than trying to knock each other out. The moment corpses started appearing the time for this sort of in-fighting was over.

I have two fists. [ Revali has a point, but Akira is the type of person to gut punch his best friend because he's being teased even while they're in the middle of chasing down a deranged spirit. Sometimes punching is eternal. ]

And we're not all playing for the same team.

You're referring to the coins, aren't you?

[He did hear details about it, although not as many as he'd like]

Maybe. But those Watchers aren't on the same level as us either.

[He's going to be very surprised if they really are being truthful!]

You saw how they were like when they stepped out of that tower. They're making themselves seem more reasonable than they actually are.

[...he says that mostly because Revali expected an obviously evil person to step out, not three hooded figures that wasted no time in enabling Revali's bombastic bragging. That just didn't fit.

Yeah, the Legend of Zelda generally isn't known for having tremendously multifaceted antagonists]

They could be clueless idiots too. Hopeful clueless idiots. [ But he doesn't disagree with Revali either. ]

Why do you think they're reasonable? Apart from the sorry every other sentence.

Week 2 --- Wednesday --- Memory Share

[What a town, huh. Don't you think it's a weird place, Akira? Memories abound, and also there are canals everywhere. Revali doesn't really like when Medli takes the form of that aquatic bird, but if he told her to change, she'd refuse and instead insist in being a penguin for longer than necessary.

He knows because it has happened. Medli has no patience for Revali.

That's why Revali is kind of trying to ignore Medli while she's scavenging for more glass shards. She has been taking advantage of how it doesn't take much to activate them to shove Revali's past into people's faces. Yup, definitely his soul: forcing people to find out about him.

At the sight of Akira, she seems to get a bit of a mischievous twinkle in her eyes, glass shard in her beak. Hi Akira. Revali seems to be none the wiser to her, but it's unlikely he's unaware of Akira's presence]

[ I can't believe this penguin is the mastermind.

Akira is just passing by to be honest, after everything this week has been even he's not in the room to start something on purpose. Too bad that penguin has it out for him. He looks and catches that twinkle too late to really retreat, though he does manage to get out a complaint before the memory happens. ]

... fuck no, I already have a headache—

[And it probably is going to get worse, buddy! Seeing other people's memories is a pain! Especially if it's from someone you don't want to see it, that's for sure.

It takes no more than a touch to the shard for everything to begin changing, everything turning into night, the surroundings transforming into what seems to be some place high on the sky. There's the constant murmur of something very big and very mechanical, a subtle rumbling coming from under Akira -- undoubtedly the feeling of powerful engines. There even is the noise of rotors somewhere nearby. Looks like this location is a gigantic flying machine of some sort.

A pulsing...contraption is nearby, pulsing with a malicious energy. Takes no more than a look to see it's bad news. Where's the person you're looking from, though? Even though you're obviously on someone's point of view, there doesn't seem to be a body. It's like a disembodied conscience, watching on this place.

Doesn't take long for one young man to appear. A knight, apparently. The blight having taken over this machine appears. Only takes one look that's one powerful abomination! Until finally, one voice -- voice Akira probably already knows well -- echoes all over the place: Revali's voice. There's not that much sound, but the things he manages to hear are meaningful enough:

'It defeated me one hundred years ago...' and 'You must avenge me, Link!'

Connecting the dots perhaps isn't the easiest thing to do, but if Akira manages to do so, perhaps he'll realize a certain bird, despite all his -- admittedly well deserved -- bluster and arrogance, got killed in battle a century ago. No wonder he was some disembodied conscience in that memory. Seems the memory ends before the fight between that knight and the scourge begins for real.

Well! Looks like Akira was right after all, at some point Revali really was a spirit. Or a ghost. Something!]

[ ...wow. It doesn't take Akira long to come back from that memory, even with the weird perspective. ]

So I was right, huh? [ He should feel bad about this but sometimes you gotta take your wins. ]

[Takes a moment for Revali to notice someone else has taken a look at his memories. He turns his head to Medli, glaring at her, the penguin glaring back at him in a manner that just looks hilarious on a penguin. Revali tries to figure out which memory she decided to show this guy of all people!

...something that makes him think he's right, huh. That'd be...a memory from after he died, no? There are so many like that one. Hopefully it's not the one where he had to eat crow and admit Link wasn't as worthless as he thought. Now that'd be salt on the wound]

So what if you were?

[He tried to sound like he wasn't bothered, but he failed at concealing how tense he got. He really doesn't like how Medli decided to show to so many people he was dead]

That it proves I know a spirit when I see one. [ But he doesn't seem to really be gloating about it so much, even if there is an amused curl to his lip. [

And it means this is a second chance at life for you.

[When he hears that Revali recoils. For a moment he seems at a loss for words, conflicted feelings bubbling inside him. Second chance, huh. This is his second chance in life.

At times like these, that he's alive again seems like such a joke]

Hmph.

[He doesn't seem happy in the slightest, which makes his following words sound so strange:]

Better this than passing on, I suppose.

Passing on requires you not to be haunting someone, you know. [ Stare. Because that memory sure seemed like Revali was haunting someone. ]

I wasn't haunting anyone!

[Medli pulls from his tailfeathers, warning him to stop getting defensive. Complying because really, it's easier to just do that than to go against his own soul, he sighs]

You hardly can move on when there's something you still need to do. I had just finished my duty, and was prepared to move on and leave him alone.

Uh-huh. Well how'd that go, then?

[ Revali you're talking to someone who knows more spirits than people at this point. ]

...better than I expected.

[Any other time he would have said 'better than it should have', given who he was relying on, but...he can't be upset Hyrule was saved. He has to acknowledge that, really]

Not like anything matters anymore, does it? Someone who has been dead for a century cannot return home like nothing happened.

After all of this, why the hell not? [ Is 100 years really that big of a deal compared to a murdergame. ]

Do you really think people are just going to believe their deceased hero from a century ago has come back? That there won't be suspicion because that hero, rolemodel of adult and children, survived while most of the other Champions perished, and then returned only after everything had been solved?

[He's...pretty sure that'd beget suspicion. Revali is very proud, but curiously enough, his feelings are vulnerable. People he doesn't consider worthless are the ones who can truly hurt his ego and feelings -- and honestly, the entirety of Rito Village fits that.

The thought they may think he cowardly ditched his duties, that he had backed down and betrayed their hopes or crumbled under pressure and fled or something like that...it scares him. A lot]

Besides, even though it will always be my home, I'd be little more than a stranger. After the widespread destruction of the kingdom a century ago, there's one single place Ritos live. It'd be noticeable if a Rito nobody knows appears all of a sudden in the village.

[Everyone he knew is gone. Ritos aren't as long-lived as other races. There's literally no one left who met him. No family, no descendants, no friends. The thought of living somewhere else is daunting, too, because that village is his home and...well, it'd be really hard to not be there again. He doesn't want to go live somewhere else, he wants to be back home, but it's not that simple.

It's a tough situation]

People believe what's in front of them. Do you think I honestly believed in spirits or the afterlife until it came barging into my front door? If you care enough you'll figure out something.

Unless you really just intend on moping until you die again.

[ It's a tough situation but Akira thinks there's no point in overthinking. Take advantage of what you have, full stop. ]
