[Revali is so relieved Rochalizo is doing better than expected. He almost expected Rochalizo to fumble and drop the arrow like five times trying to get it right, but instead he followed the steps properly. Alright! Maybe this really will work, he thinks]
During battle you won't get to aim for more than a fleeting moment. You must not waste time!
[Revali turns around and points his bow at the city walls behind them]
Let me see how's your aim.
[Without any hesitation he lets go of the arrow in his bow, it flying through the air until it embeds itself into a crack on one of the many rock bricks forming the wall. It's a pretty snug fit! That's the only reason why the arrow stays on the wall.
[rochalizo aims—albeit not for very long, given revali's whole spiel about not wasting time—and then releases the arrow.
i presume marksmanship skills with a gun doesn't perfectly translate to a bow, so it doesn't exactly hit close to revali's arrow, though it's at least not wildly off either.]
[Hmph hmph hmph indeed. If Revali had eyebrows -- well, technically he has, but still -- he'd raise them. That was...far better than expected. Certainly isn't going to hit a moving target, but he was able to hit the general vicinity. Honestly anything that isn't 'wildly off' is excellent for a first attempt]
I'll ask you once again: have you ever practiced archery?
[As if Rochalizo had lied earlier just so he would have the chance to show off right now]
I have seen many beginners try for the first time. Of course, they're all told to master archery on the ground before beginning aerial archery training. I know how most people do when they're still handling the basics.
[He sighs]
You're doing remarkably well, for someone who doesn't have much experience with bows. There's a lot of improvement ahead of you, yet you already have a decent enough base to learn from.
[Like the next day or so Revali would be so glad Rochalizo said that. There aren't that many materials for arrows down at the bottom of the sea!]
That is a decent suggestion. If you're confident enough in your craftmanship I can show you how to make one. I should warn you the process will take a while -- but any self-respecting archer must know how to make them.
[He speaks as if Rochalizo had pledged to spend the rest of his life walking the path of the archer]

Satisfied, Revali steps back]
Hit at close to that arrow as you can.

Try not to waste arrows while you're here. Recover them whenever you can.
[......]
I can provide you with some if you need them.
[He has spent so many hours making arrows, seriously, it's pretty much his way to pass the time. By now he has a decent stash of them!]

Date: 2021-10-06 11:26 pm (UTC)... Well, I'm not exactly an archer [let alone a self-respecting one] but yes, I agree it's important to be resourceful.
